Funeral service for Leora Johnson is 10:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 25, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg. Burial is in Rush Lake Cemetery, Curlew.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, at Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
Leora M. Johnson was born Dec. 27, 1918, in Havelock, the daughter of Otto and Clara (Gehrt) Maltzahn. She was a 1936 graduate of Havelock High School and a 1941 graduate of Kennedy School of Cosmetology.
On Feb. 8, 1942, Leora was united in marriage to Robert Johnson at Bethany Lutheran Church in Laurens. The couple farmed near Curlew for 43 years before moving to Mallard in 1991. Leora moved to Emmetsburg in 2003.
Leora raised her family, helped Bob farm, and managed the beauty shop at Lakeside Lutheran Home from 1968 to 1979. She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg, Anderson-Eckert-Hersom American Legion Auxiliary of Mallard and the Just-a-Meer Club. Leora liked to sew, embroider and quilt. She enjoyed traveling, playing cards and watching Iowa Hawkeye Basketball.
On Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, Leora passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, at age 94.
Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Carl and his wife, Nancy of Villisca, and Ray Johnson and his wife, Tonie of Afton, WY; two daughters, Mary and her husband, David Johansen of Irvine, CA and Ann Marie and her husband, Tony Girard of Amarillo, TX; three grandsons, Joshua Johnson and his wife, Shari, Mitchell Johansen and his wife, Katie and Neal Johansen; two granddaughters: Haley and Claire Girard; and one great-grandson, Andreas.
Leora was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, Robert on May 22, 1993.
