A Mass of Christian Burial for Alan J. Schmidt was held Monday, Oct. 21, at Sacred Heart Catholic Chuch in Ayrshire. Concelebrants were the Rev. Clem Currans and the Rev. Tom Geelan. Interment was in Calvary Cemetery, Ayrshire. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Alan Joseph Schmidt, son of Joseph and Florence (Long) Schmidt, was born March 28, 1937 in Emmetsburg. He received his education at Ayrshire Consoli- dated School. Al served in the United States Navy for two years, 1956-1958, before being honorably discharged.
On July 10, 1965, Al was united in marriage to Lolita Bullerman at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer. They were blessed with four children. Al farmed his entire life in Palo Alto County, raising livestock as well as grain farming.
Al was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ayrshire.
Al passed away Tuesday, Oct. 15, 2013, at his home in Ayrshire, at the age of 76. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Florence and his wife, Lolita.
He is survived by his children, Kristi Geelan (Pat) of Ruthven, Craig Schmidt of Roland, Curt Schmidt and his wife, Anna of Ruthven, Iowa, and Lisa Peters and her husband, Gary of Milford; 12 grandchildren; a sister, Carolyn Johnson of Lake Park; special friend, Bev Nepple; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Elaine Kellen, Catherine Bullerman, and Boysie and Marlene Bullerman, all of Adrian, MN; as well as many other relatives and friends.
