RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Raymond W. Olson of Ruthven will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Aug. 29, at the United Methodist Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Roger Maize will officiate.
Interment will be in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.
Raymond William Olson, son of Orrie and Viola (DeGroff) Olson, was born Aug. 1, 1912, in Clay County. Raymond attended Lake Township Consolidated School graduating in 1929. Following high school Raymond continued his education at Iowa State University and graduated in 1933 with a BS degree in Animal Husbandry.
On Dec. 28, 1933 Raymond was united in marriage to Helen Current. Raymond farmed in the area for several years before retiring in 1977. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Ruthven.
Raymond passed away Sunday, Aug.t 25, 2013 at the Ruthven Community Care Center at the age of 101. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Helen; daughter-in-law, Dianne Olson; son-in-law, Reed Sale; sisters, Verna Cox and Fern Woodward; and two great grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Janet Sale of Creston, Myrna (Keith) Johnson of Kellogg, Stanley (Peggi) Olson of Engelwood, FL, and Roger Olson of Ruthven; 12 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Ruth Ann (Everett) Scott.
