Philson’s Celebrate 65th Anniversary

SUN CITY CENTER, FL - Dean and Darlene Philson of Sun City Center, Florida celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on June 27. They reside at 1904 Wolf Laurel Drive, Sun City Center, Florida 33573.

The Philson's have three children: Steven and Pam Philson of Lincoln, Nebraska; Michelle and Greg Caudill of Manassas, Virginia; and Kim and Ken Conte of Manassas, Virginia. The couple has four grandchildren.

Dean Philson and Darlene Erickson were married June 27, 1948 at the Lutheran Church in Harlan.

Darlene is the daughter of the late Floyd A. and Sadie Erickson, who operated a farm southwest of Harlan for many years. Dean is the son of the late Grover and Zella Philson. Grover was the Shelby County Sheriff during the 1930s and 1940s.

Darlene and Dean graduated from Harlan High School in 1945. Dean spent a short enlistment in the U.S. Navy. In 1948 Dean enrolled in Pre-Veterinary medicine at Iowa State College (now ISU). In 1951 Dean was accepted into Veterinary School.

In 1954, Dean graduated from Iowa State University with a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree and spent nearly nine years as a farm animal practitioner in Emmetsburg. In 1963, Dean accepted an appointment with the Animal Disease Eradication Division of the U. S. Department of Agriculture. They were assigned to several different parts of the U.S. with their last assignment being the Tampa, Florida area. Dean (and Darlene) retired from Federal service in 1989.
