July 16, 2013
Emmetsburg News

Funeral service for Monte L. Thompson was held Saturday, July 13, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew. The Rev. David Moore and Pastor Judy DePue were the officiants.

Interment was in North St. John's Cemetery, Depew. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.

Margaret (Peg) and Lyle (Red) Thompson's lives were forever changed for the better on Aug. 18, 1945 when their beautiful blue-eyed baby boy, Monte Lynn, was brought into this world.

Monte graduated from Cylinder High School where he was crowned Homecoming King in 1963. After graduation, he continued his education at Iowa Lakes Community College. He then began his farming career on the family farm where he lived and raised his son, Scott, and daughter, Heidi.

On March 24, 2000, Monte's was united in marriage to Janis Austin. They made their life together on the farm that they loved so much for 13 years.

Monte was a lifetime member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Depew, and was a current vice-chairman of the church. He served over a decade on the Farmer's Mutual Board of Directors and also served on the Cylinder Coop Board of Directors. He touched the lives of all area schoolchildren by taking a day out of his busy harvest schedule to share his farm and host the annual Farm Safety Day.

Monte went to his eternal home on Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the age of 67. Monte was preceded in death by his father, Lyle Thompson.

Left to treasure his memory is his wife, Janis; his mother, Peg; his son, Scott (Lynnette) Thompson and their children, Ashley and Tyler; his daughter, Heidi Thompson-Krause and her friend Ron Haisman and Heidi's children, Shelby and Austin; his second family, Monica (Scott) Hoch and their children Shay and Erin and Brad Twait; his sister Christy (Dave) White; his brother Jim (Cindy) Thompson; nephews Ryan White, Josh White; nieces Jamie Gavle, and Brett Thompson; sisters-in-law, Shirley (Roger) Moon and their son, Adam (Katie) Malo, and Susan Austin and her sons, Tyler Anderson and Riley (Ashley) Anderson.
