PORT RICHEY, FL -- Richard D. Fread, 86, of Port Richey, FL, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Gulfside Regional Hospice, Hudson, FL, after a long battle with M.D.S.
He was born March 24, 1927, in Rodman to parents Ernest A. and Anne Marie (Sewell)?Fread.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond J. Fread, brother; and A. Darlene Fry, sister.
He is survived by his wife, Rae Jean (Lee) Fread; daughter, Susan R. McClusky; and son, Mark Fread; five grandchildren, Michelle Crossett, Lysa Crossett, David Schook, Stephen Schook and Jeremy Fread. Also surviving are his brother, Kenneth Fread and wife Vivian (Roland) of Ruthven.
Dick graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1947 after returning from serving in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre until World War II's end on the USS?Belleau Wood (CVL-24)?carrier. He rejoined the Navy during the Korean Conflict and retired from active duty in 1967. He retired again from Civil Service in the Pentagon; and retired for the last time from Westinghouse Electric, Annapolis, MD, in 1990.
A memorial service was held at the First United Methodist Church in Hudson, FL, on Sunday, June 9, with the Rev. Tom Hindman officiating.
An interment ceremony will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, with the Rev. Roger Maize of Ruthven officiating.
