Graveside funeral services for family and friends of Edward C. Peaslee was Monday, June 17, at the Laurens Cemetery with military rites.
Edward was born Nov.7, 1925 in Des Moines, the son of Donald and Gladys (Gates) Peaslee. The family moved to Laurens in 1936, and Edward graduated from Laurens High School in 1943. Following his education, Edward joined the United States Marine Corps where he saw action in the Pacific on Iwo Jima.
In 1948, he married Wynona Stahr. In 1958, they moved to Phoenix, AZ, and several years later, moved to California. Upon retirement in 1991, they returned to Iowa and took up residence in Mallard.
Edward was the great-grandson of Col. D.B. Henderson who was the Speaker of the House under President Teddy Roosevelt. He loved hunting, fishing and most sports. He also played the trumpet in several bands.
On Friday, June 14, 2013, Edward passed away at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters and sons, Becky Wooten (Ralph) and Barrie Wright (Eric); Bruce (Judy), Brian (Lillian) and Bradley (Susan); 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Wynona; brother, Donald; and two grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Salvation Army.
