Clarence E. Smith Bland

RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Clarence E. Smith Bland was held Friday, June 7, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven.

Interment was in Fairview Cemetery, Terrill. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.

Clarence Elmer Smith Bland, son of Clarence Raymond and Martha (Bolts) Smith, was born Oct. 10, 1930, in Cherokee. Clancy graduated from Truesdale High School and then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. He served six years in the Iowa National Guard.

Clancy was united in marriage to Edna Soper. He was employed at the Storm Lake Packing Plant for two years and then began work at the John Morrell Plant in Estherville where he worked for 32 years. Before retiring Clancy was employed for 10 years at the Terrill Co-op Elevator.

He passed away Monday, June 3, 2013 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, at the age of 82. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; a son, Timothy Bland; and his wife, Edna Bland.

He is survived by his wife, Marilee Bland of Humboldt; children, Brian Bland of St. Paul, MN and Brenda Bland of Ruthven, and Steven "Kim" Bland (Brenda) of Albert Lea, MN; grandchildren; and great grandchildren.
