Robert Darling 1931-2013

Funeral service for Robert Darling of Emmetsburg was Monday, June 3, at Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg.

Robert was born Oct. 29, 1931, in Anita, IA, the son of Robert Russel and Mary Irene (Daughenbaugh) Darling. He attended school in Fontanelle.

Bob worked for several farmers, and he also worked road construction. Bob finished working for the city of Emmetsburg where he worked as as a road maintenance and sanitation engineer for over 20 years.

On Nov. 29, 1985, Bob was united in marriage to Sheryl Hanson in Emmetsburg.

Bob enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards, gardening and working in his yard. He loved his family, and treasured the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. Bob always enjoyed a good cup of coffee or a diet pepsi with his friends. One of his favorite pastimes was feeding his birds and squirrels.

On Thursday, May 30, 2013, Bob passed away at his home surrounded by the women in his life, his beloved wife, daughters and granddaughters.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sheryl of Emmetsburg; children: Dana Darling (Cheryl), Nancy Darling and Peggy Darling all of Greenfield, Dennis Darling (Diane) of Emmetsburg, Sandy Herrera of Greenfield, Pat Darling (Kaydean) of Green- field and Deb Bruellman of West Bend; his sister, Mary Gooselan of Conway, AR; 24 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; mother-in-law, Mary Ables of Em- metsburg; sisters-in-law, Diane Darling of Indianola, Norma Darling of Council Bluffs, Karen Hanson of Emmetsburg and Donna Hartman of Milford; brothers-in-law, Rich Hanson (Mary) of Algona, Bill Hanson (Sharlene) of Sierra Vista, AZ, Paul Hanson (Zhenea) of Chicago, IL, Kirk Hanson (Paula) of St. Louis, MO, and Larry Bendixen of Mallard.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Josh Darling; brothers, Dave, Larry, Steve and Max Darling and Cecil Williams; sister, Lorraine Stark; his wives, Jan (Bendixen) Darling and Cecilia (Miller) Darling.

Memorials may be made to the Robert Darling Memorial Fund.
