Funeral service for Henry C. Miller of Emmetsburg was held Saturday, June 1, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The Rev. David Moore from St. John's Lutheran Church, Depew, officiated.
Internment was in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Henry Charles Miller, son of Rudolph and Elsie (Westfall) Miller, was born Nov. 2, 1921 in Palo Alto County, Iowa. He received his education in country schools in the area.
On Aug. 17, 1956 Henry was united in marriage to Marian L. Snyder. Henry farmed his entire life near Emmetsburg. When he was 65 he decided to retire. After a very short time he knew that retirement was not for him and that he wanted to return to farming. He continued his passion until he was 85 years old.
In his younger years, Henry was an avid hunter and trapper. In later years his interests were raising a large garden each summer, doing yard work and caring for his flowers. He also enjoyed feeding the gold finches and watching westerns on T.V.
Henry passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at the Spencer Municipal Hospital at the age of 91. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; two sons, Terry and Daniel; sisters, Edna Henderson, Alice Conn, Mildred Berkland, Mary Reese and an infant sister, Elsie Mae Miller; brothers, Raymond Miller and LeRoy Miller.
He is survived by his daughter, Lynn James and her husband, Roger of Emmetsburg; his grandchildren, Josh James, Jesse James, Danyel Snyder, and Brittany Christensen; great grandchildren, Diamond James, Noah James, Brooklyn James, Lexi Swanson, Jace Stevens and Tori Tello; a sister, Grace Wiegand of Algona; several nieces and nephews; as well as many other relatives and friends.
