Funeral service for Verdine L. Wood of Emmetsburg is 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, at Grace Baptist Church in Emmetsburg.
Burial is in Evergreen Cemetery. The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is assisting the family.
Verdine Lucille Wood was born Jan. 17, 1925 in Holstein, the daughter of Clifton G. and Lucille M. (Suiter) Wickey. She attended school in the Holstein area.
On Jan. 4, 1942, Verdine was united in marriage to Harold Wood in Emmetsburg. The couple farmed in the Emmetsburg area for over 50 years. Verdine raised her family, and for several years, she drove a school bus for the Emmetsburg School District.
Verdine was a member of Calvary Gospel Assembly Church in Estherville, and she attended Grace Baptist Church in Emmetsburg. Verdine enjoyed gardening and sewing. While in Arizona, she loved to spend time making crafts, making sun-catchers and painting plates.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Gerald and wife, Barbara, and Dale and wife, Ann, of Emmetsburg; Sheryl and husband, Vern Bell of Carrollton, TX; step-children: Kenneth Henderson and wife, Mary of Eufaula, OK, Robert Henderson of West Bend, Linda Branch of Panama City, FL, Ray Henderson and wife, Joyce of Des Moines, Virginia Helleseth and husband, Tom of Lebanon, MO; four grandchildren: Naomi, Hannah, Amber and Amy; six great-grandchildren: Mya, Aidan, Carys, Rhys, Cloe and Fyneas; and her brother-in-law, Robert Henderson of West Bend.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; son, Dean; stepfather, Raymond Henderson; grandson, Aaron Wood; great-grandson, Griffin McIntosh and sister, Monna Henderson.
