Homeowner Visits With Supervisors

April 30, 2013

Future improvements to County Road B55 east from Rodman were addressed by a county resident at the April 23 meeting of the Palo Alto County Supervisors.

Jim Bargman expressed a concern to the supervisors that when the road comes up for reconstruction, acquisition of right-of-way could leave Bargman's front door at the edge of a roadway.

"I built my home three years ago 77 feet from the right-of-way," Bargman explained. "There's no ditch to speak of on the north side of the road there for about a hundred yards and no tube in my driveway. It all drains naturally. I'm just concerned that there will be a deep ditch right in front of the front door of the house."

While no work is planned for the roadway this year, there are future plans to reconstruct the roadway.

"I guess I'm just saying I hope something can be worked out when the time comes,"?Bargman said. "I don't want to have to look both ways when I?step off my porch."

"It's good we know about these concerns,"?Supervisor Keith Wirtz told Bargman. "We'll relay them to the Engineer's office for their plans for the project. I'm sure we can work something out."

In other business, the supervisors approved a construction permit for Iowa Lakes Electric Cooperative to build an overhead line in Great Oak Township along 450th Avenue.

The board also was advised the secondary road weight embargo was ended on April 22 and that a Budget Amendment hearing is set for 10 a.m. May 14.
