Wolverines Get Great Efforts At Gowrie

GOWRIE With near perfect conditions to complete in, West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate's boys track squad ran some great times at the Prairie Valley Relays in Gowrie. A pair of first-place finishes highlighted the Wolverines' efforts Monday evening.

The 4x800 relay, with the foursome of Jesse Zinnel, Jason Zinnel, Nathan Grimm and Aaron Montag turning in a clocking of 8:46 to win the event. Also earning a first place finish on Monday was the Medley Replay, comprised of Davey Jergens, Jordan Buhs, Dustin Johnson and Aaron Montag who finished with a 3:55 clocking.

Jesse Zinnel turned in a 5:04 in the 1600 meter run to finish in second place and then earned third place in the 800 meter run with a time of 2:15. The 4x400 relay, comprised of Nathan Grimm, Nolan Dahlhauser, Nolan Grimm and Aaron Montag also placed third with their effort of 4:00.

Nolan Grimm finished fourth in the 3200 meter run with a time of 11:36, while Jason Zinnel placed fourth in the 800 meter run with a 2:18 clocking. The Wolverines' 4x200 relay, with Jordan Buhs, Travis Fehr, Dustin Johnson and Nathan Grimm, finished with a 1:40 time to place fourth as well.

Davey Jergens would finish fifth in the 100 meter dash with a time of :12.0 while Travis Fehr took fifth in the 200 meter dash with his time of :25.1. Tyler McKimmey placed fifth with a 1:06 time in the 400 hurdles. The shuttle hurdle relay of Davey Jergens, Tyler McKimmey, Jack Banwart and Dustin Johnson was clocked in at 1:10 and the 4x100 relay, with Davey Jergens, Travis Fehr, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Buhs also placed fifth with a time of :47.9.

"It was a perfect night for a track meet and we were able to drop our times in many races," noted Wolverine Head Coach Jerry Vanderhorst. "The 4x800 and medley teams ran great races. Jesse Zinnel and Tyler McKimmey ran well in their races and Nolan Grimm dropped 25 seconds in the 3200. We are still not in the best of shape, but we are working toward getting better as the season progresses."
