LAKE CITY The track and field season opened on Tuesday for the boys of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate with an appearance in the Ink Wunderly Relays at Lake City. The Wolverines collected a total of nine placings during the competition, according to Head Coach Jerry Vanderhorst.
Leading the efforts was the Wolverines' Medley Relay, as the quartet of Jordan Buhs, Davey Jergens, Dustin Johnson and Aaron Montag took first place with a time of 4:02.
A fourth place finish was earned by Jesse Zinnel in the 3200 meter run with his 11:26 effort, while Davey Jergens turned in a time of :25.0 in the200 meter dash. The 4x200 relay, comprised of Davey Jergens, Aaron Montag, Dustin Johnson and Jordan Buhs also earned a fourth place finish with their 1:41.0 clocking.
Jason Zinnel would finish fifth in the 3200 meter run with his time of 11:27. Jordan Buhs took sixth place in the 100 meter dash with a time of :12.3, while Jesse Zinnel placed sixth in the 1600 meter run with a time of 5:13. The Shuttle Hurdle relay, with Davey Jergens, Tyler McKinney, Jack Banwart and Dustin Johnson turning in a 1:11 time for sixth place and the 4x400 relay, with Jordan Buhs, Nolan Dahlhauser, Dustin Johnson and Aaron Montag finishing sixth with a 4:02 time.
"Even though it was a cold night, it was good we were able to get out on the track and compete," noted Coach Vanderhorst. "The medley group ran a good race and overall, Davey Jergens had a good night. There were a lot of good teams at this meeting with IKM-Manning, coached by Kyle Vanderhorst, being very balanced overall."
Vanderhorst concluded, "We will look to improve and hope, like everyone else, for better weather."
