HUMBOLDT - The outdoor track and field season finally got underway for the Emmetsburg E-Hawks on Friday with a trip to the Charlie Bunn Relays in Humboldt. The E-Hawks would finish in eighth place in the team standings with 19 points as Algona claimed the team title of the event.
Allen Jensen would post Emmetsburg's lone championship on Friday in the 110 high hurdles with his time of :15.98. The E-Hawks' Shuttle Hurdle Relay would earn third place honors with a time of 1:04.76 for its first outdoor run of the year.
In other relay events, Emmetsburg got a fifth place finish from the 4x200 meter relay squad with its time of 1:41.33 and a sixth place finish from the 4x100 relay, who finished in :47.57. The 4x400 relay would finish in seventh place with a 4:33.13 clocking and the Distance Medley finished eighth with a time of 4:19.03.
Aaron Bird finished eighth in the 100 meter dash with a :12.53 effort, while Alex DeFord placed 13th in the 200 meter dash with a time of :26.84. Niklas Reichert placed 14th in the 400 meter dash with a 1:01.38 effort and Wesley Brennan was 16th with his 1:04.05 clocking.
Nick Grandstaff earned ninth place in the 800 meter run with a 2:31.55 time and Niklas Reichert was 10th with a time of 2:35.11. Grandstaff would then take ninth in the 1600 meter run with a 5:31.01 effort, while Christian Strohman finished 12th with a 6:37.40 time and Lane Smith earned 10th place in the 3200 meter run with a 13:09.78 clocking.
Brandon Elbert would finish 10th behind teammate Allen Jensen in the 110 high hurdles with a time of :18.28 and then earned ninth place in the 400 hurdle event with a time of 1:04.01.
In field events, Allen Jensen earned ninth place in the long jump with a 16'4.5" leap and Wesley Schultes placed 12th with his jump of 15'10.5"
Patrick Brennan collected eighth place in the shot put, throwing 38', while Nick Jackson finished 11th with a throw of 34'11". In the discus, Nick Chapman threw the platter 88' feet while Patrick Brennan finished 16th with a throw of 67'11".
In the Junior Varsity division on Friday, Emmetsburg's JV got good placings from its relay entries, starting with a second place finish by the 4x100 relay squad, who turned in a time of :49.37. The 4x200 relay placed fourth with a time of 1:49.49.
Christian Strohman earned 10th in the 800 meter run with a time of 3:01.41 and Larry McAllister placed 12th with a time of 3:18.17. In the 1600 meter run, Michael Clasing placed 11th with a time of 7:00.36 and Larry McAllister finished 12th with a 7:17.86 effort.
In field events, Eli Reichert was sixth in the shot put with a throw of 31'7", while Nick Chapman was seventh with a throw of 31'4". Michael Woodruff placed 14th with a throw of 28'9" and Doug Vesey claimed 17th place with a throw of 27'.
In the discus, Nick Jackson finished 10th with a throw of 74'5", while Michael Woodruff finished 12th with a throw of 73'7" and Colin Smith placed 13th with a throw of 70'9".
The E-Hawks are scheduled to compete in action at Spirit Lake today (Tuesday).
