STORM?LAKE - The 2013 track and field season got off to a start last Tuesday with the Lakes Conference Indoor Meet. The meet was held in the Lamberti Recreation Center at Buena Vista University in Storm Lake.
No team points were kept for the event.
"It was good to be able to get some actual competition in,"?noted Emmetsburg Lady E-Hawk Head Coach Dan Dooley. "The weather has made it tough to get a lot of work in outdoors."
In the girls action, Emmetsburg got a 13th place finish in the 55 meter dash from Rachel Schroeder with her time of :08.34, while Mikki Mundus finished 22nd with a time of :08.73. Rachel Ruddy finished 29th with a time of :08.83 and Sydney Elbert finished 41st with a time of :9.98.
In the 200 meter dash, Rachel Ruddy finished with a time of :33.97 and Sydney Elbert placed 30th with a :37.34 effort.
Cierra McAllister led the Lady E-Hawks in the 800 meter run, finishing 10th with a 2:55.30, while Olivia Smith was 11th in a time of 2:55.54. Taylor Reimer finished 12th with 2:56.36 and Caroline Fantz placed 16th with a 3:03.94 effort.
In the 1500 meter run, Cierra McAllister placed eighth with a time of 6:02.53 and Olivia Smith placed 11th with a 6:22.06 clocking., while Ema Enriquez placed 25th in 8:19.60.
Hadley Egland would earn a ninth place finish in the 55 meter hurdles with her time of :10.12.
In the 4x200 relay, the foursome of Rachel Schroeder, Mikki Mundus, Alexa Naig and Emily Bonnstetter finished ninth with a time of 2:01.77, while the relay comprised of Hadley Egland, Caroline Fantz, Whitney Kibbie and chelsea Forry, placed 14th in a time of 2:06.94.
The Lady E-Hawks' 4x400 relay, with Hadley Egland, Chelsea Forry, Alexa Naig and Emily Bonnstetter placed 13th with a 4:58.24 and the 4x800 foursome of Tara Harris, Ema Enriquez, Emily Noll and Maura Soukup finished seventh in 13:54.26.
The Shuttle Hurdle relay of Cierra McAllister, Alexa Naig, Hadley Egland and Whitney Kibbie were fifth with a :43.51 time to round out the running events.
In the long jump, Rachel Ruddy finished 16th , jumping 12'5" and in the shot put, Teegan Olson was 14th with a throw of 27'6.5", while Emily Noll finished 28th with a throw of 21'7.5" and Chelsea Strohman finished 32nd with a throw of 17'1.5".
For the Emmetsburg boys, the meet also offered the first good competitive experience of the season, according to Head Coach Tyler Beving.
The highlight of the outing was the win in the shuttle hurdle relay for the E-Hawks, as the foursome of Clayton Henderson, Brandon Elbert, Allen Jensen and Cody Henderson took the top spot with a time of :35.80.
In the 55 meter dash, Emmetsburg was led by Andrew Wellik, who earned fourth place with his :06.90 clocking. Aaron Bird would finish 14th in a time of :07.32 for the E-Hawks.
Andrew Wellik would turn around to finish second in the 200 meter dash with a time of :23.86, while Aaron Bird was 10th with a :26.13 effort.
In the 800 meter run, Nick Grandstaff finished 19th with a time of 2:25.22, while Wes Brennan was 24th in a time of 2:32.19. Niklas Reichert was 26th with a time of 2:37.63, while Christian Strohman was 29th with a 2:55.84 and Lane Smith finished 30th with a time of 3:09.74.
Wesley Brennan ran the 1600 meters in 5:00.60 to finish seventh, while Nick Grandstaff placed 25th in a time of 5:34.86. Christian Strohman was 36th with a 6:29.39 and Lane Smith was 37th with a time of 7:01.35.
It was almost a dead heat in the 55 meter hurdles, as Clayton Henderson took fourth place over teammate Allen Jensen with an :08.47 to Jensen's :08.50 clocking for fifth place. Brandon Elbert earned ninth place with a time of :09.06 in the event.
Emmetsburg's 4x200 relay, with Clayton Henderson, Greg Wesley, Shay Mortenson and Allen Jensen, finished seventh with a time of 1:42.59, while the JV relay squad of Aaron Bird, Wesley Schultes, Zach Anderson and Jacob Kibbie finished 12th with a time of 1:45.74.
In the 4x400 relay, the quartet of Jacob Kibbie, Wesley Schultes, Niklas Reichert and Alex DeFord finished 15th in a time of 4:19.54.
In the long jump, Allen Jensen placed 13th with a jump of 17'5.75", while Clayton Henderson finished 15th with a jump of 16'10.75" and Wesley Schultes finished 16th with his jump of 16"2". Alex DeFord would finish 25th in the long jump with his effort of 12'2".
The shot put competition saw Patrick Brennan place 22nd with a throw of 24'3", while Nick Jackson threw the orb 32' to place 28th. Nick Chapman threw 29'9.75" to finish 32nd, while Michale Woodruff finished 34th with a throw of 28'3/4" and Doug Vesey threw the shot 21''3.50" to finished 37th.
Tuesday's Earlybird Meet at Estherville Lincoln Central was cancelled and will not be made up. the first outdoor action for the E-Hawk boys will now be at Humboldt on Friday, April 5, while the Lady E-Hawks will also see their first competition outdoors on Friday, April 5 at the Tomahawk Relays in Cherokee.
