Funeral service for Sharon Ann Hoobler of Emmetsburg will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, March 21, at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Kim Peterson, pastor at Bethany Lutheran in Emmetsburg, will officiate.
Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery in Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Sharon Ann Hoobler, daughter of Alden Michael and Catherine Mary (McCoy) Hermansen, was born Jan. 24, 1936 in Ruthven. She graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1954 and attended Emmetsburg Junior College attaining an Associates Degree in Education. Sharon then attended Buena Vista College, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Education.
On June 22, 1957 Sharon was united in marriage to Homer Mileham. To this union four children were born.
Sharon taught in Rodman, Cylinder and Emmetsburg school districts. She was devoted to education and had a great passion for learning throughout her entire life.
On March 12, 1982 Sharon and James Hoobler were married in Emmetsburg. After her retirement, Sharon and Jim spent their winters in Phoenix where Sharon enjoyed teaching classes in the Mac Club.
Sharon was a member of Grand Federated Women's Club in Emmetsburg and the Mac Special Interest Group in Phoenix. She also enjoyed getting together with the retired teachers group that met for coffee.
Sharon passed away Monday, March 18, 2013 at the age of 77, at her home in Emmetsburg.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, James Hoobler of Emmetsburg; her children, Laurie (Ed) Siddall of Newton, Steven (Sue) Mileham of Fort Dodge, James (Dannette) Mileham of Newton, and Thomas (Linda) Mileham of Des Moines; nine grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a brother, Mike (Pam) Hermansen of Emmetsburg; a sister, Noreen Hermansen of Cedar Falls; a sister-in-law, Marlys McCoy of Rochester, MN; nieces and nephews.
Memorials will be given to the Emmetsburg Education Foundation and Hospice of Palo Alto County.
