Funeral service for Alice Stafford was Friday, March 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. Burial was in Ellington Township Cemetery.
The Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg was in charge of arrangements.
Alice was born Oct. 20, 1927 in Emmetsburg, the daughter of Virgil and Mary (Armstrong) Howard. She attended grade school in the Rodman area, and she was a graduate of Mallard High School where she excelled at basketball.
On Nov. 26, 1948, Alice was united in marriage to Kenneth Stafford in Iowa City. She taught country school near Rodman and later helped Ken on the farm while raising her family.
Alice was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and the Mallard Country Club. She enjoyed cooking, baking, playing cards and watching trivial game shows. As a young lady, Alice loved to play basketball, and she continued playing sports enjoying golf and bowling. She also liked to spend time in the outdoors, gardening, bird watching and caring for her flowers. Most of all, Alice loved to spend time with her family.
On Monday, March 4, 2013, Alice passed away at the Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg.
Left to cherish her memory are her children: Nancy and husband, Dr. Wendell Davis of Overland Park, KS, Richard and wife, Diana of Mallard, Daniel and wife, Lois of Great Bend, KS, Peggy and husband, Paul Reinhart of Albany, MO and Mary Stafford and friend, Frank Crotts of Mallard,; son-in-law, Jim Studer of Mallard; her sister, June Hopkins, and husband, Dick of Laurens; 16 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; daughter, Jinner Studer; son, David Stafford; step-son, Robert Stafford; grandson, Joseph Stafford; five brothers and a sister.
