With a minor change, the fiscal year 2013-2014 budget for the Palo Alto County Assessor's Office was given approval by the county's Conference Board during a meeting 26. The Conference Board is comprised of representatives from each of the four school districts located in the county, along with the mayors of the incorporated towns and the Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors.
Representing the school boards was Kevin Jensen of Graettinger-Terril, while mayors in attendance were Mayor Jim Gehrt of Mallard, Mayor Marilyn Schutz of West Bend, Mayor Myrna Heddinger of Emmetsburg and Mayor Kevin Hanson of Graettinger. County Supervisors present included Board Chair Ron Graettinger, Ed Noonan, Linus Solberg, Jerry Hofstad and Keith Wirtz.
In presenting the budget to the Conference Board, Palo Alto County Assessor Lois Naig noted that the budget she was submitting was reduced $436 from the proposed budget the group had approved earlier in the month. The revised budget totaled $249,244, down from the original total of $249,680.
"I had originally proposed a two and a half percent salary increase for the office manager and clerk," Naig told the group, "But the supervisors set two percent for the elected officials, so I adjusted all the salaries to meet the two percent."
As revised, the Assessors Office budget will increase $2,830 over the current fiscal year budget.
With no further discussion, Marilyn Schutz moved to approve the budget and with a second from Kevin Hanson, the three entities all approved the budget on a unanimous vote.
