Irish dignitaryDeputy Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy, TD, is coming to Iowa next week to celebrate St. Patrick's Day. Emmetsburg will once again host a weekend of activities celebrating the community's Irish heritage.
Emmetsburg's visiting Irish Dignitary will fly in to the Des Moines airport on Tuesday, March 12. Marcella will visit the Iowa State Capitol and be a guest at the Iowa Legislature on Wednesday, March 13, before traveling to Emmetsburg.
Marcella is a former member of Offaly County Council, serving from 1999 to 2009. She was elected to Dail Eireann in February 2011 where she is now a member of Joint Oireachtas Committee on Environment, Transport, Culture and Gaeltacht. She was also selected as a member of the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Justice and Defence.
She is the Chairperson of the Fine Gael Internal Committee on Justice, Equality and Defence, the Birr Theatre and Arts Centre and the OFFline Film Festival. Marcella is also a member of Film Offaly and the board of Management of Gallen CS, Ferbane.
Previously, Marcella served as the Chairperson of the Fine Gael Council of Local Representatives from 2006 to 2009 as well as being Chairperson of the Midlands Regional Authority in 2006. She also served as a member of the Fine Gael Executive Council from 2004 to 2009.
Marcella and husband Seamus have two children, Evan, 22 and Rebecca, 18. As busy as she is, Marcella enjoys going to the theatre and her favorite playwright is Martin McDonagh. She enjoys playing trivial pursuit with her family and The West Wing is her favorite television program.
Emmetsburg residents will have several opportunities to meet and visit with Marcella Corcoran-Kennedy and make her feel welcome in the community.
