To the Editor:
After many years of procrastination, I finally got around to having a colonoscopy at the Emmetsburg Hospital. It was a painless procedure, but the results were sobering. I was told that I had two polyps, one that would require surgery to remove. Tests showed it to be cancerous. After surgery, my surgeon told me that I was one of the lucky ones. My cancer had been contained in that area and that no additional treatments were needed.
March is Colon Cancer awareness month and everyone is being reminded that if you are over 50 and have not had a colonoscopy you need to get one. If it has been several years since your last one check with your doctor to see if it is time to be retested. It is a painless test that can save your life. It saved mine.
