WEST BEND - The Grotto of the Redemption has received a substantial grain donation from an anonymous donor who is challenging area farmers to meet or beat the initial contribution.
"This was a very unexpected surprise for us but something we're really excited to help make successful," said Darcie Kramer, Executive Director of the Grotto.
The local resident, who does not wish to be identified, recently donated 500 bushels of corn to the Grotto and has agreed to match additional contributions up to 2000 bushels. The donor's only suggestion was that the funds be used towards restoration of the Grotto.
"Restoration can be a timely and expensive project," said Kramer. "We're grateful this donor has recognized our struggles and is stepping up in a big way."
She noted, "IRS rules state donors must transfer the ownership of the grain to the Grotto first. We will then sell the grain and notify the donor of the dollar amount we receive."
An account to receive donations has been established at MaxYield Cooperative in West Bend.
Donors wishing to contribute to the grain challenge are asked to contact the Grotto to begin the donation process. Phone calls can be directed to (515) 887-2371 or e-mail email@example.com.
