HULL?- The post season started and ended in one game for the Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire on Thursday night, Feb. 14. The Titans squared off against Trinity Christian of Hull in the first-round of Class 1A District boys basketball and came up on the wrong end of a 52-38 loss to end their season with an 8-14 mark.
The tournament outing was the third time this season that the Titans had met up with Trinity Christian, falling by a 41-66 tally back in December and a much closer 51-59 loss in late January.
Thursday night, Coach Randy Hough's Titans came out firing and stayed right with Trinity Christian through the first quarter, trailing 14-13 at the end of the first eight minutes of action.
But in the second quarter, Trinity Christian started to edge away on some good outside shooting, taking a 29-23 lead into the locker room at the half-time break.
The Titans would match Trinity bucket-for-bucket during the third quarter of the contest, staying within striking distance but trailing 39-32 at the end of the third quarter of the contest.
But in the final quarter, Trinity Christian began pulling away from the Titans, using long-range shooting and overpowering the Titan defense to put the game out of reach and end GT/RA's season in the 52-38 final decision.
Connor Sturgill would earn the double-double in the loss for the Titans with 13 points and 16 rebounds, while Austin Dyer added 13 points to the effort. Marcus Girres came away with five points, while Andy Geelan chipped in three points and handed out six assists. Trevor Hagedorn and Mason McGrauth would both add two points each to the Titans' tally.
