February 21, 2013
Emmetsburg News

Joyce Milder nee McTigue, 87, of Winfield, IL, passed peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at home surrounded by her family

Joyce was born in Emmetsburg on July 8, 1925 to Joseph and Mary McTigue nee Cullen. Joyce was baptized at Assumption Church and was a graduate of St. Mary's Grade School and Emmetsburg Catholic High School. She was a valued employee of the Iowa Trust & Savings Bank in Emmetsburg from 1943 until 1954.

In August of 1953 Joyce was married to Clement Milder at Assumption Church in Emmetsburg. They were blessed with ten children. The first eight children were born in Emmetsburg and were baptized at St. Thomas Church. The two youngest were born in Winfield, IL.

Joyce and Clem left Emmetsburg in 1966 and moved to the Chicago area. Throughout her life, Joyce never forgot her Catholic faith. She was dedicated to Catholic education, and tirelessly volunteered at St. John the Baptist Grade School and St. Francis High School, from where her ten children graduated. She attended daily mass for over 40 years and prayed the rosary daily. She also loved playing bridge, reading, traveling and summer vacations with her entire family. Joyce spoiled her grandchildren in many ways but especially by preparing the very best cinnamon rolls.

Joyce is survived by her loving husband Clement of Winfield, IL and their ten children: James (Annie), Winfield, IL; Mary Anne (Leonard) Wall, Chicago; Julie (Perry) Bump, Winfield, IL; Sheila (Jerry) Tomaszewski, Chicago; Therese, Chicago; Joseph, St. Charles, IL; Jayne (David) Orlet, Belleville, IL; Noreen (Earl) Cheng, Elmhurst, IL; Colleen (William) Jochum, Glen Ellyn, IL; John (Laura), Oak Park, IL. Joyce and Clem were also blessed with 33 grandchildren-the first was born in 1982 and the 33rd was born in 2011. She is also survived by her brother Patrick (Arlene), sister-in-law Kathryn McTigue, brother-in-law John Murray, and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Jerry McTigue, and her sister Janette Murray-who passed away this past November.

The Mass of Christian Burial for Joyce was held on Jan. 9, 2013 at St. John the Baptist in Winfield, IL. Each of her grandchildren had a special role in Joyce's Funeral Mass. She was laid to rest at Assumption Cemetery in Wheaton, IL.
