EVERLY - Despite a furious comeback attempt Thursday night, the Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire Titan girls saw their season on the hardwood come to an end. Clay Central-Everly would end the Titan's campaign in a 50-43 loss in the opening round of Class 1A District tournament play.

After falling to the Lady Mavericks by a 50-32 tally two nights earlier, the Titans came out firing at the opening tip and took and early 8-5 lead over the Mavericks that would turn into an 11-8 advantage for GT/RA?at the end of the opening quarter of play.

However, the Mavericks quickly tied the game shortly after the start of the second quarter, 15-15. Then CC-E went on an eight-point run that the Titans were unable to answer. , the hosts suddenly went on an 8-0 run and eventually took a 27-20 lead at the intermission.

In the second half of the contest, Clay Central-Everly was able to keep their lead intact, allowing the Titans just nine points in the third frame to trail 39-29 at the end of the quarter.

The Titans would go down by 13 points early in the final frame but suddenly became red-hot.

With a three-pointer from Lauren Flaharty starting the rally, the Titans began fighting back into the contest. The shot appeared to rattle the Mavericks, as they went cold, allowing GT/RA to reel off 10 unanswered points over the next 4:00 of play.

CC-E would retake the lead off a free throw, but the Titans' Brooke Hoffman answered with a bucket, but the Mavericks would go to the charity stripe again to retake the two-point lead.

The Titans' lone senior, Cassy Hampson, would tie the game back up off a put-back for the 43-43 tie, but that would be GT/RA's final bucket of the contest. A pair of buckets by the Mavericks would give CC-E the 50-43 final margin of victory.

For GT/RA, Brooke Hoffman and Lauren Flaharty both scored 10 points, while Emily Moran added six tallies. Cassy Hampson, Grace Skattebo and Marly Bakken all scored five points, with Alex Olsen chipping in two points.

Lauren Flaharty also claimed a double-double with her 10 points and 10 rebounds on the night.

For GT/RA, the season ends with a record of 6-15. The Titans bid farewell to their only senior, Cassy Hampson, as the season comes to a close.
