MANSON - With just two wrestlers competing in the Class 1A Sectional tournament last Saturday, West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate came away batting .500 as they earned one qualification for this Saturday's District tournament.
The Wolverines' 160 pounder, Dan Eubank, will journey to Okoboji High School in Milford this Saturday at noon to try and qualify for the State Individual Wrestling Tournament next week in Des Moines.
Eubank earned his right to compete at the district meet by opening his Sectional tournament appearance with a 2:11 win by fall over Kodi Ferguson of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire, and then earned a berth in the finals with a 1:19 win by fall over Skyler Michalski of Manson Northwest Webster.
But in the finals, Eubank was pinned in :21 of his title match with Rue Kenny of Ridge View to finish second.
The Wolverines second grappler, Harmon Atwood, would be the victim of a :33 pin at the hands of Emmetsburg's Brett Steinkamp in action at 113 pounds to start the day. Moving into the consolation bracket, Atwood drew a bye, which placed him in the fifth place bracket.
Wrestling for fifth place, Atwood would earn the honors with a 3:35 win by fall over Zach Kenny of Ridge View.
