CHEROKEE - Emmetsburg's E-Hawks avenged an early-season loss and won their first league game of the season Tuesday in a 60-50 decision over Cherokee.
The E-Hawks trailed 27-22 at the intermission on Tuesday, but came out in the second half to score 12 unanswered points in the third quarter on their way to a nine-point, 41-30 lead over the Braves.
In the final quarter, Emmetsburg continued to play solid defense and made their offense work well to preserve their lead and earn the 60-50 final victory, which improved the team to 4-16 overall and 1-13 in the Lakes Conference.
For Emmetsburg, the E'Hawks were led by the 30 point effort of Jake Jackson offensively.
Mike Myers and Erik Drost would both knock down 10 points each in the contest, while Michael Pugh added five points. Brandon Elbert tallied three points and Austin Krause scored two points.
The E-Hawks will travel to Manson tonight (Thursday) before starting tournament play Monday night at Sioux Cental in Sioux Rapids.
