Funeral service for Michael Hollingsworth, 72, of Emmetsburg will be 10:30 a.m., Friday, Feb. 1, at Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg.
The family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Joyce Funeral Home in Emmetsburg. There will be a Knights of Columbus Rosary at 6 p.m. and a parish vigil service at 6:30 p.m.
Michael Phillips Hollings-worth was born Jan. 16, 1941, during an ice storm. He is the son of Jack Ecton and Mary (Phillips) Hollingsworth.
On Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, Mike passed away at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg, during an ice storm. He was 72.
Mike was adopted by Chet Hollingsworth as a child. Mike was a graduate of Walsh High School in Ottumwa, and he joined the United States Air Force in 1959 serving until 1964. Following his service, Mike lived in California where he attended Sacramento State University. In 1971 he returned to Ottumwa. He began working for Target where he met his wife to be, Sharon.
On Oct. 6, 1973, Mike was united in marriage to Sharon Gabel in Ottumwa.
The couple moved to Emmetsburg in 1983 where they owned and operated Ben Franklin. During retirement, Mike worked for Iowa Lakes Community College in the maintenance and intercampus courier departments.
Mike enjoyed fly-fishing, golf and the outdoors. He loved his family, and treasured every minute he spent with them.
Mike was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He was the past-Grand Knight for the Knights of Columbus.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sharon of Emmetsburg; daughter, Amy Smidl (Chris) of Palatine, IL, son, Andy of Ames, and daughter, Kiera Russell of Moulton Borough, NH; brother, Dennis Hollingsworth (Rita) of Waukegan, IL, brother, Paul Hollingsworth of Bath, ME, sister, Denise Dunlay (Mike) of Waterloo, and brother, Bill Ecton (Judy) of Blue Springs, MO; five granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents.
