GRAETTINGER -- Funeral service for Marie Reeves will be held at 10 a.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 24, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. Pastor Christine Lang will officiate.
Interment will be in Valley View Cemetery, Graettinger. The Henry-Olson Funeral Home, Graettinger, is in charge.
Marie passed away on Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, Iowa, at the age of 90.
Marie (Nissen) Reeves, the daughter of Ernest and Jeanette (Southworth) Nissen was born Nov. 21, 1922, in Dickens. At the age of two Marie was adopted by Jorgen and Anna (Myer) Anderson. She received her education in the Graettinger schools.
Marie enjoyed doing many crafts connected with knitting, crocheting and needle point. She was famous for making Lefsa for the holidays. Marie loved gardening, flowers (many varieties), golfing and especially her grandchildren.
Marie was a member of Bethel Lutheran Church in Graettinger. She worked as a cook in restaurants (D-X cafe) in Graettinger, Dutches Diner and Bob's Diner in Emmetsburg.
Left to cherish Marie's memory are her children, Jo Ann Vander Vorste and her husband, Don of Graettinger; Glenn (Butch) Reeves and his wife, Carol of Columbus, NE; Donna Merkel of Prairie Village, KS; 14 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; one great-great grandson; two step-daughters Diane and Mitzi; brother, Robert Vanderhoff; and three half-brothers, Eugene, Ronald and Dennis Nissen.
Preceding Marie in death are her parents; adopted parents; husband, John; son, Darrell; two brothers, Roy Nissen and Lyle Anderson; sister, Vera McLaughlin; half-brothers, Gary and Melvin Nissen; half-sisters, Virginia Herom and Delores Anderson.
