MALLARD -- Funeral service for Gary Travis will be held at 10:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Jan. 24, at the United Methodist Church in Mallard. The Rev. Evelyn Lewiston will officiate.
Burial will be in Rush Lake Cemetery, Curlew The Harris Funeral Home in Mallard is in charge of arrangements.
Gary Travis died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2013, in Algona. He was 50.
Gary Travis, the son of Wyman Sr. and Roberta (Weaver) Travis was born Nov. 14, 1962 in Fort Dodge. He spent his childhood on a farm south of Mallard with his parents; brothers, Wyman Jr. and Jim and sister, Barb. Gary graduated from the Mallard High School in 1982 and later started farming with his father, Wyman Sr.
He served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged after two years. After returning from the service he started his own trucking company in Curlew, and also worked as a dispatcher for Ag Com.
Gary enjoyed showing cattle, fishing and spending time with friends and family, but most of all spending time with his children, Sydney and Wade.
Gary loved helping his brother Wyman farm every spring and fall.
His survivors include his children, Sydney Mae, 14, and Wade Louis, 13 of Curlew; brothers, Wyman (Becky) Travis of Curlew, and Jim (Deb) Travis of Mallard; sister, Barb (Bruce) Hoffman of Storm Lake; and many nieces and nephews.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Wyman Sr. and Roberta Travis; sister-in-law, Loret-ta Travis; great nephew, Keaton Wirtz; grandparents, Scott and Julia Travis, and Otho and Alta Weaver.
