The Titans of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire earned a split in a pair of boys basketball games over the past weekend. On Friday, the Titans defeated North Union by a 43-32 tally, but came up short in a 44-65 loss to Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn on Saturday.
In action on Friday, the Titans used a double-double from Connor Sturgill to key their victorious effort. Sturgill would rip the nets for 20 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the victory to lead the Titans. Austin Dyer added an 11-point performance with seven rebounds and dished out seven assists.
Marcus Girres chipped in six ponts, while Michael Girres added four points and Mason McGrauth tallied two points with six rebounds.
"We got off to a fast start, but North Union was able to claw their way back into the game,"?noted GT/RA?Head Coach Randy Hough. "But, we pulled away from them in the fourth quarter."
It was a different story on Saturday evening against the Eagles of MMC, as the Titans fell by a 65-44 tally. With Connor Sturgill out of the lineup due to illness, Austin Dyer picked up the load and led the Titans with 19 points on the night, as well as dishing out four assists. Trevor Hagedorn added nine markers with six rebounds, while Mason McGrauth scored six points. Marcus Girres and Michael Girres both scored four points in the effort and Lane Reiman chipped in two points.
"We played a little short handed without Connor Sturgill,"?noted Coach Hough. "Marcus was a much more physical team and wore us down."
