LeMARS - A long road trip to LeMars saw Emmetsburg's Lady E-Hawks come up short in a 58-24 setback Friday night in Lakes Conference basketball action.
A long bust trip is usually not conducive to a fast start in a contest, and such was the case on Friday in LeMars. The Lady E-Hawks struggled in the first quarter to get their offense to work against the full-court press of the LeMars girls, and trailed 17-0 at the end of the first stanza.
But in the second quarter, Emmetsburg began to find some success with their offense. The Lady E-Hawks came up with some good rebounds and were able to convert some second-shot opportunities into points, as they would end the first half, trailing 29-11.
In the second half, Emmetsburg's offense was able to keep things moving positively, as they outscored LeMars 9-8 in the quarter for a 37-20 tally at the end of the third quarter.
But in the final frame, LeMars ratcheted up the defensive pressure and brought in fresh players off the bench who were able to outscore Emmetsburg 21-4 in the final quarter to take the 58-24 win over the Lady E-Hawks.
For Emmetsburg, Alexa Naig led the scoring with 10 points, while Tegan Olson added seven markers to the effort. Ashton Connelly scored six points and Hadley Egland came away with five points.
Emmetsburg continues Lakes Conference play tonight (Tuesday)?at Spencer, and then travels to Storm Lake on Friday night.
