E-Hawks Sweep Final Conference Duals

ESTHERVILLE?- The Emmetsburg E-Hawk wrestling team capped off its Lakes Conference Dual season with sweep over LeMars and Estherville Lincoln Central on Thursday night. Emmetsburg defeated LeMars by a 43-34 score and then edged Estherville Lincoln Central in a 39-33 final to complete the Lakes dual season with a 6-1 mark, the only loss coming to Spencer in league action.

Action against LeMars started at 106 pounds, where Dillon VanOosbree lost a 9-0 Major Decision to Nic Madsen, but at 113, Brett Steinkamp earned a :22 win by fall over Tanner Frankson-Small. Emmetsburg would forfeit at 120 pounds due to the illness of Jake Miller, giving Tyler Carlson a forfeit win.

At 126 pounds, Joey Lowman earned a 13-3 Major Decision win over Mason Weller to tie the score at 10-10.

Chance Saathoff would be the victim of a 1:58 fall at the hands of Cody Sherlock in action at 132 pounds. At 138, Tyler Leuer returned to the Emmetsburg lineup for the first time this season. After recuperating from shoulder surgery at the end of football season, Leuer came out and earned an 8-7 decision over Skyler Gries.

Caige Elbert would tally a :55 win by fall over Tyler Hoffman in action at 145 pounds and at 152 pounds, Joe Schmidt battled Juan Hernandez tough in their match before being caught and pinned in 4:58 by the Bulldog grappler.

At 160 pounds, Emmetsburg issued a forfeit to Kyle Williams, making the score 28-19 in favor of the Bulldogs, but that was all about to change.

At 170 pounds, Nick Schany needed just 1:00 to pin Chris Hamman and Andrew Wellik scored a 1:04 win by fall over Dillon Belt in the 182 pound match.

Austin McCartan followed suit at 195 pounds, pinning Chris Hiserote in 1:26 and at 220 pounds, Tayler Wegner pinned Alex Hermes in :35 to put Emmetsburg on top, 43-28, before the E-Hawks forfeited the 285 pound match to Tevite Moa-Lamp for the 43-34 final team score.

In the finale` of the evening, the E-Hawks squared off with the Midgets of Estherville Lincoln Central in what would be a close dual all the way through the lineup.

Starting action at 113 pounds, Brett Steinkamp got the E-Hawks off on the right foot with a :42 win by fall over Joel McCoy, but the E-Hawks forfeited at 120 to tie the score at 6-6.

Joey Lowman would score a :51 win by fall over Cole Budach in action at 126, but at 132, Chance Saathoff was pinned in :39 by Oscar Ramirez for a 12-12 tie.

Tyler Leuer would record a 2-0 decision victory over Thomas Bortvit in a match at 138 that was scoreless until the final period.

Caige Elbert would fall victim to a :35 pin at the hands of Blake Gjerde in the 145 pound match to give ELC?an 18-15 advantage.

At 152, Joes Schmidt was pinned in :53 by Billy Snyder and at 160, the E-Hawks forfeited to Grant Lausen to give Estherville Lincoln Central a 30-15 lead.

Nick Schany reversed the tide at 170 pounds when he scored a 2:19 win by fall over Jacob Bortvit. That was followed by Andrew Wellik and Austin McCartan receiving wins by forfeit at 182 and 195 pounds, respectively.

At 220 pounds, Tayler Wegner earned a 1:06 win by fall over Chase Bonner to make the score 39-30 before both teams forfeited the 285 pound match for no points.

For the final match of the dual, Dillon VanOosbree battled Easton Gifford tough, only to come up short in a 12-10 decision for the 39-33 final.

After competing in the Herb Irgens Invitational in Ida Grove of the weekend, the E-Hawks will host Senior Night tonight, Tuesday, at the high school as part of a double dual with Pocahontas Area and Algona. Action starts at 6 p.m.
