It's not too early to be thinking about the Wearin' O' the Green, as St. Pat's is just a few weeks away. Entries for the 2013 Miss Shamrock Pageant are now being accepted.
The 2013 Miss Shamrock Pageant will be held Friday, March 15, in the Emmetsburg High School Auditorium.
The competition is open to all young women currently in their junior or senior year of high school in Palo Alto, Kossuth, Emmet, Dickinson, Clay, Buena Vista, Pocahontas and Humboldt counties.
The young woman selected to wear the coveted crown of Miss Shamrock will have a busy week reigning over the 2013 Saint Patrick's Celebration in Emmetsburg, and will also have numerous opportunities for public appearances throughout the year.
Miss Shamrock receives a cash award of $500, with the First runner-up receiving $250 in cash and the Second runner-up receives a $125 cash prize.
The judging for Miss Shamrock is based on a private, personal interview with each contestant, as well as a performance of a three minute talent selection on stage, formal wear presentation stage presentation and an on-stage question.
Several past Miss Shamrock contestants and titleholders have gone on to participate in the Miss Iowa Scholarship Program over the years as well.
