Emmetsburg News

The Emmetsburg Community Recreation Department is once again sponsoring its Boy's and Girl's Youth Basketball Programs this Winter. The programs are open to all boys and girls in grades 1-4.

The program will be held on Saturday mornings in the High School Gym and Middle School Gym. The program will begin on Saturday, January 5th, 2013 through February 2nd, 2013. The Girls will meet in the Middle School Gym & Boys will meet at High School Gym. The 3rd and 4th grade will meet from 10:30 am to 11:15 am, and the 1st and 2nd grade from 11:15 am to 11:45 am. A schedule will be handed out on January 5th.

The Basketball Program is designed to teach the basic rules and fundamentals of the game. The varsity basketball staff and team will coach participants. There is a participation fee. This fee is payable to the Emmetsburg Recreation Department. If you have any questions, please call Mike Dunlap, City Recreation Director at 852-3383.

Registration must be completed and returned no later than Friday, Jan. 4, 2013.

As part of the program all youth who participate in the weekly practices will have the opportunity to play a game during half time in the high school during varsity basketball games. The boys and girls are encouraged to play at this time. They will play for six minutes during half time. The young athletes should meet by the boy's locker room with one minute left in the second quarter of the boy's or girl's game.

Parents are encouraged and welcomed to attend these games to watch their children participate. If parents do come to the game at the start of the girls or boys' game, they will be asked to pay admission. If they arrive at the game shortly before half time just to watch their son or daughter and leave after half time, they will not be asked to pay admission.

Parents are asked to please encourage their son or daughter to play in the games at half time. This is a great opportunity for the young athletes.
