Police Seeking Public Assistance In Cases

Emmetsburg Police are asking for the public's assistance as they investigate a pair of cases that occurred over the past weekend.

According to Emmetsburg Police Chief Eric Hanson, during the overnight hours of Saturday, Dec. 22 and Sunday, Dec. 23, several acts of criminal mischief and damage took place in Emmetsburg.

The Emmetsburg Police Department received 13 separate incident reports of vehicle tires being slashed. All of the vehicles involved in these incidents were parked outside in their respective driveways, when a person or persons unknown entered onto the property and slashed the vehicle tires with a sharp, cutting-type instrument.

Out of the 13 residences where the criminal mischief acts took place, a total of 24 tires were damaged. The estimated total amount of damage resulting from this criminal mischief spree is $4,600.

The Emmetsburg Police Department is offering a $500 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for these acts of criminal mischief.

In a second case, Emmetsburg Police are seeking the assistance of the public in an investigation into a burglary that took place at a local business over the past weekend.

According to Emmetsburg Police Chief Eric Hanson, the Emmetsburg Police Department was notified on Sunday, Dec. 23, of a burglary that occurredat the Flannegan Western facility on Highway 18 East, sometime during the overnight hours of Dec. 22. Forced entry into the business was obtained and once inside, the person or persons took two grinders from the business. The missing grinders have an estimated value of $210.

During the commission of this crime, an unknown suspect sustained a severe cut or laceration to their hand, wrist or arm area.

The Emmetsburg Police Department is asking for the public's assistance in obtaining any available information as to the identity of the individual who was injured during the breakin. The public is being asked to make note of any individual, acquaintance, associate of friend who has sustained a cut or laceration to their arm, wrist or hand within the past few days.
