HULL?- Emmetsburg's E-Hawk wrestling team split a pair of Lakes Conference duals on Thursday night at Hull. The E-Hawks earned a 66-18 win over the Wolfpack of Western Christian, but were on the other end of the score in a 58-21 loss to Spencer's Tigers.

The split gives Emmetsburg a 6-2 mark overall and 2-1 dual mark in the Lakes.

"We just had some matches were we just couldn't get things going," observed Emmetsburg Head Coach Jared Pickett. "We needed to wrestle better all the way through the lineup and just couldn't get it done."

Opening the night against the Wolfpack of Western Christian, Emmetsburg sent Brady Bailey to the mat first at 160 pounds, where he fell victim to a 4:15 pin at the hands of Jacob VanGinkel,

At 170 pounds, Nick Schany needed just 1:44 to score a win by fall over David Weidauer and at 182 pounds, Andrew Wellik pinned Drew Hoekstra in :53 to put the E-Hawks up 12-6 in the team race.

Austin McCartan would add to the E-Hawk coffers with a :56 win by fall over Joe Bootsma before Taylor Wegner received a win by forfeit at 220 pounds.

In the 285 pound match, Tanner Dahm earned a 1:05 win by fall over Western Christian's Austin Gonnerman to give the E-Hawks a 30-6 lead.

Emmetsburg would received a win by forfeit for Dillon VanOosbree at 106 pounds, but would forfeit the 113 pound match to Western Christian's Matt Henning. At 120 pounds, the E-Hawks' Jake Miller received a win by forfeit, as did Nick Merwald at 126 pounds, Chance Saathoff at 132 pounds, Chris VanHeuvelen at 138 pounds and Caige Elbert at 145 pounds to put Emmetsburg up 66-12.

In the final match of the dual, the E-Hawks' Joe Schmidt was pinned in :59 to end the dual with a 66-18 final score and victory for the E-Hawks.

Emmetsburg wouldn't be as fortunate in the second dual of the night against Spencer's Tigers, however.

At 170 pounds, Nick Schany would go the distance against Blaine Johnson to earn a 6-2 decision victory.

At 182 pounds, Andrew Wellik pinned Pierce Jensen in 1:31 of their match and at 195 pounds, Austin McCartan earned a :54 win by fall over Ben Pingel.

Taylor Wegner would earn a 1:16 win by fall over Tony Botcher in the 220 pound match, but at 285, Tanner Dahm, was pinned by Spencer's Casey Severson in 3:06 of the match to make the score 21-6 in favor of the E-Hawks.

Spencer would go on a tear from that point, as Dillon VanOosbree was pinned in :34 by Dylan Huston at 106 pounds.

Emmetsburg would forfeit at 113 to Trevor Streuli, at 120 to Bailey Hawn and at 126 to Seth Anderson to vault the Tigers to a 30-21 advantage over the E-Haws.

At 132 pounds, Chance Saathoff was pinned in :42 by Nick Cross and at 138, Chris VanHeuvelen was pinned in 1:49 by the Tigers' Levi Gilmore.

Caige Elbert would fall victim to a pin in 1:00 at the hands of Adam W. Johnson in the 145 pound match and at 152, Joe Schmidt was pinned in :09 by Hunter Cauthron before Brady Bailey would lose an 11-1 Major Decision to Tanner Schaefer for the 58-12 team score.
