GRAETTINGER - The Titan wrestlers of Graettinger-Terril/Ruthven-Ayrshire earned a seventh place finish over the weekend at the Sibley-Ocheyedan Invitational.
The Titans had two champions on Saturday, with Austin Thompson winning the 132 pound title and Ty Gibson winning at 145 pounds.
At 132 pounds, Austin Thompson got a :41 win by fall and an 11-0 Major decision before winning the title with a 12-7 decision over Derek Erdman of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn.
Ty Gibson earned a 1:21 win by fall and a 12-1 Major decision before earning a 9-2 decision over Taylor Reck of Sibley-Ocheyedan for the championship.
At 285 pounds, Cody Thompson received a first-round bye and then scored a 12-9 decision before being pinned in the finals by Michael Rosewall of Cherokee in :46 to finish second.
Matt McGrauth earned a fourth place finish at 160 pounds after he was pinned in the first round in 2:58, but came back to win by a 4:25 fall and then scored a 1:48 win by fall, but would bein pinned in the consolation final by Dylan Rolfes of Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn in 1:32 to finish fourth.
Tyler Hoffman was pinned in his first round match in 3:17 but came back to win in a 2:17 fall, but was pinned in 3:44 before he claimed fifth place with a 9-5 decision win over Parker Meier of Alta-Aurelia for fifth place.
Kyle Long was pinned in the first round in :58 but rallied to score ?:59 win by fall, only to be pinned in :55 before bing pinned in :57 by Dallas Boger of Cherokee to place sixth at 195 pounds.
The Titans resumed action on Tuesday night, Dec. 11, hosting a triangular with Laurens-Marathon, Alta-Aurelia and West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate.
Against Laurens-Marathon, the Titans lost a close 42-40 decision.
In contested matches, Alex Hoffman pinned John Matheson in :53 at 113 pounds and at 132, Austin Thompson pinned Justen Spangler in :33. Tyler Hoffman earned 2:23 win by fall over Dalton Wiley at 145 pounds and at 170, Matt McGrauth won a 14-4 Major decision over Matt Koening.
Kyle Long and Cody Thompson both received wins by forfeit.
"We came out ready to wrestle, knowing we were forfeiting seven weights,"?noted Titan Coach Michael Jensen.
Against Alta-Aurelia, the Titans came up short in a 39-30 decision.
In the contested elections, Kyle Long earned a :50 win by fall over Christian Jarvis in action at 195 pounds, while Tyler Hoffman scored a 2:49 win by fall over Ben Stange in the 145 pound match.
Hunter Brown was pinned in :55 at 152 pounds and Cody Thompson lost a 2-1 decision in overtime at 285 pounds.
The Titans got wins by forfeit for Matt McGrauth at 160, Alex hoffman at 113 and Austin Thompson at 132 pounds.
"Everyone wrestled one hundred percent and we only had two losses on the night,"?Coach Jensen said.
In the finale` of the evening, the Titans and West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate ended up trading forfeits.
The Wolverines earned forfeit wins at 113 for Harmon Atwood and at 170 for Dan Eubank, while Titans Matt McGrauth, Kyle Long, Cody Thompson, Alex Hoffman, Austin Thompson, Tyler Hoffman and Hunter Brown all earned wins by forfeit.
