William McGrauth 1926-2012

William Jr. McGrauth, son of William Allen and Julia (Lee) McGrauth, was born Dec. 3, 1926 in Emmetsburg. He attended school in Emmetsburg, graduating in 1945 from Emmetsburg High School. During his high school years, Bill worked for the railroad. Following graduation, Bill served in the United States Army.

Bill married Betty Rogers and ten children were born to this union.

On June 16, 1967 Bill was united in marriage to Janis Crow in Sioux Falls, SD. They were blessed with four children.

After returning from the service he was employed by Emmetsburg Municipal Utilities where he worked for 39 and a half years until his retirement. Following his retirement, Bill went back to work part time for EMU locating water lines and utility hook ups. He also enjoyed taking Meals on Wheels to individuals around town.

Bill was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed hunting pheasants and rabbits. During the summers, Bill always had a very large garden.

Bill died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2012, at the V.A. Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD, at the age of 85.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Kathryn Ulrich (Frank); a brother, Archie Stubblefield (Elsie); and a grandson, Steven Crow.

He is survived by his wife, Janis of Emmetsburg; his children, Marsha Crow (Steve) of Anaheim, CA, Rosemary Young (Mark) of Rathdrum, ID, Michael McGrauth (Janice) of Elmo, MT, Sherry Ayala (Robert) of Oro Valley, AZ, Peggy Wilson of Moreno Valley, CA, Kitty Cabellero (Valentine) of Miami, FL, Patty Coolidge of Moreno Valley, CA and Stephen Harold McGrauth of Corona, CA; Kerry McGrauth (Brenda) of La Palma, CA, Kim King (Michael) of Palmer, Mark McGrauth (Julie) of Ruthven, Corey McGrauth (Kristen) of Boone, Terry McGrauth (Christine) of Graettinger, and Keith McGrauth of Emmetsburg; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and a sister, JoAnn Gjere (Gordon) of St. Paul, MN.

Funeral services were held Monday, Dec. 3, at the First United Methodist Church, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg.
