Funeral service for Phyllis Wright of Emmetsburg is Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg. The Rev. Louie Q. Gallo will officiate.
Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Emmetsburg. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Dec. 4, from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg.
Phyllis Christena (Henningsen) Wright was born Dec. 22, 1929 on a farm northwest of Emmetsburg to Charley and Alma (Hermansen) Henningsen. She attended country school, Emmetsburg number 5, for eight years and graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1948.
On May 1, 1951 she was united in marriage to her high school classmate, Robert Wright at the Methodist Church in Estherville.She was very proud of the home that she and Bob built together in 1953 and where she lived until her death.
Phyllis worked for daycare and Headstart for 10 years. She was an assistant teacher and cook. She had a daycare at her home for several years and loved children. She was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Emmetsburg, teaching Sunday School and serving on various committees.
Phyllis passed away Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg at age 82.
She was preceded in death by her youngest son, John Wright; granddaughter, Megan Wright; parents, Charley and Alma Henningsen; sisters, Alice (Lloyd) Simonson and Shirley (Clarence) Grimes; and a brother, Kenneth (Elaine) Henningsen.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Robert; daughter, Debra (Barry) Buse; son, James (Jean) Wright; daughter-in-law, Maureen Wright; grandchildren, Joe Wright, Michael Buse and Molly Buse; several nieces and nephews.
