Funeral service for James A. Marcellus will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. The Rev. Neil Hayen will officiate.
Burial will be in Ellington Cemetery, Mallard. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Emmetsburg is in charge of arrangements.
James A. Marcellus, son of John Peter and Lucille (Ambrose) Marcellus, was born on April 3, 1923, in Humboldt. He attended country school and graduated from Rodman High School in 1942.
On Aug. 14, 1949, James was united in marriage to Betty Reese.
James and Betty raised their children on a farm near Rodman and West Bend, where James did grain farming and had livestock. Along with his love of farming, James had a great interest in tractors and was especially fond of Allis Chalmers. He never missed the opportunity to attend the Albert City Threshing Bee.
James was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mallard. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States and overseas. He wintered in southern Texas for many years.
James passed away Saturday, Nov. 24, 2012, at PARC Hall in Emmetsburg, at the age of 89.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Betty; and a sister, Betty Green.
He is survived by his children John Marcellus (Jane) of West Bend, Val Tomkins (John) of Mallard, and Kelly Grethen (Jerome) of Ashland, MO; 14 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a dear friend, Winona Loomis of Ayrshire.
