A lighted Christmas Parade will kick off the holidays in Emmetsburg this year on Friday, Nov. 30.
"This is the first of what will hopefully become an annual event," said Dan McCain, parade coordinator and President of Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce. "So far we have 21 entries that will participate in the parade."
Emmetsburg Retail Association and Emmetsburg Chamber of Commerce are coordinating the Lighted Christmas Parade.
The lighted Christmas Parade will begin at the corner of 8th and Broadway near the Methodist Church. Parade units will travel south on Broadway to 14th Street, near Hardware Hank.
The parade is a kick off for Emmetsburg Retail Association's first holiday event, Home for the Holidays.
Santa Claus will lead the parade, riding in an Emmetsburg Fire Truck. Santa and Mrs. Claus will then go to the Welcome Center to greet boys and girls of all ages.
"Biblical Brass &?Beyond" will fill the air with music at the Welcome Center as well. Hot chocolate and goodies will be served.
Area residents will be treated to horse-drawn wagon rides again this year, provided by members of Pony Express.
Want to participate in the parade? Here's how:
Parade entries can be any size, but each must be lighted.
Each parade entry must use a Christmas theme. Since Santa Claus will be leading the parade, the ERA/Chamber asks that others do not include Santa or Mrs. Claus on their parade entry (it may confuse the children to see multiple Santas).
Please identify entries with a sign or banner.
Each entry will be provided an entry number. Parade units will line up at 5:30 p.m. along Soper Park. Participants will receive an e-mail telling them where their unit will be located in the parade.
If people want to hand out candy or other items, these items must be handed out from the sidewalk. Nothing can be distributed from the float. For example, members of Emmetsburg Retail Association will be handing out glow-in-the-dark necklaces along the parade route.
Deadline to enter is Friday, Nov. 23.
