Swimmers Close Out Season

The Algona Area girls swim team wrapped up the season with an eighth place finish at regionals on Oct. 27 in Fort Dodge, scoring 95 points to beat the host team Fort Dodge.

"It was a good meet, and very competitive for the most part. We had already been up against Spencer, Boone, Storm lake and Perry so we knew what they were like. Valley,, Waukee and Sioux City Metro," noted Head Coach Jim Fisher. "All of them were all in the top 10 in the state. We had eight personal bests, one team record and two season bests on the day. It was nice to have five of the personal bests set by returning swimmers for next year and the team record set by Nicole Kenne in her last meet, breaking her own record."

The Medley relay of Alyssa Williams, Maddie Stubbs, Hannah Priest and Mackenzie Wilson finished seventh, while the 400 Freestyle relay, with Leah Hamilton, Wilson, Emma Plathe and Nicole Kenne finishing eighth, and setting a season's best time by five seconds.

The 200 relay team, with Plathe, Wilson, Stubbs and Priest finished in ninth place, and Hannah Priest also finished ninth overall in the 100 breaststroke and then finished 12th in the 50 freestyle.

Nicole Kenne finished 13th in both the 500 and 200 freestyle events and set a new team record in the 200 freestyle event.

Maddie Stubbs placed 13th in the 200 IM and then finished 14th in the 100 butterfly.

Leah Hamilton finished 16th in the 200 free and 17th in the 100 freestyle, while Alyssa Williams finished 16th in the 100 butterfly and 18th in the backstroke.

Abby Strohman placed 17th in the breast stroke and 20 in the 200 IM both were personal best with 11 seconds off her IM time

MacKenzie Wilson 25 in the 50 free.. 17th in the breast stroke and then finished 20th in the 200 IM. Both finishes were personal bests for Strohman, who cut 11 seconds off her IM time.

Emily McMahon would finish 20th in the 100 breast stroke, which was a personal best effort, and then finished 21st in the 200 IM.

Conner Yi finished 21st in the 100 butterfly, which was a new personal best effort.

Emma Plathe finished 21st in the 100 freestyle and 23rd in the 50 freestyle.

Micheala Christian earned a 22nd place finish in the 500 freestyle, while Casey Harms would place 23rd in the 100 backstroke, which was a new personal best time for her in the event.

Rounding out the efforts was MacKenzie Wilson with a 25th place finish in the 50 freestyle.
