RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Wanda J. Horst was held Monday, Oct. 15, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Tom Summerfield officiated.
Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.
Wanda Jean Horst, daughter of Clarence "Kim" and Earniestesteenia (Smith) Simington, was born July 29, 1931 in Ruthven. She graduated from Ruthven Community School in 1950. On Dec. 12, 1950, Wanda was united in marriage to Leighton "Lug" Horst in Jackson, MN.
Wanda was employed as a waitress and also did house cleaning for many families in the area and cleaned for numerous businesses and churches throughout Ruth-ven. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and church circle and the Ruthven American Legion Auxiliary.
Wanda passed away Friday, Oct. 12, 2012, at Lakeside Lutheran Home in Emmetsburg, at the age of 81.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leighton "Lug" Horst; son, Galen "Trigger" Horst; sister, Beulah Hanna; granddaughter, Katie Horst; great grandson, Jacob Horst; two sons-in-law, Art Sampson and Bruce Knuth.
She is survived by her children, Sue Sampson of Ruthven, Leah (Jeff) Cacek, Jeanette "Nett" Lowman, Jessica "Noke" (Doug) Berger, and Bill (Tammy) Horst and step daughter, Diana Knuth all of Ruthven; daughter-in-law, Patricia Horst of Curlew; son-in-law, Timothy Lowman of Ruthven; 16 grandchildren; 19 great grand- children; and a sister, Josephine Cole of Ruthven.
