Early Voting Opportunities Now Available

October 2, 2012
Dan Voigt , Emmetsburg News

The period for early voting for the 2012 elections officially opened on Thursday, Sept. 27. The Palo Alto County Commissioner of Elections has sent information to all registered voters in the county on the upcoming election and the various voting methods available.

The traditional early voting method is the absentee ballot. Registered voters may obtain an absentee ballot by mail from the Palo Alto County Auditor's Office or by appearing in person at the Auditor's Office in the Courthouse.

A voter may telephone the Auditor's office to request an Official Absentee Ballot Request Form, which will be mailed to the voter, who must complete it and return it to the Auditor's office, who will mail the absentee ballot back. Requests for mailing an absentee ballot will be accepted through Friday, Nov. 2 at 5 p.m.

Voters who wish to vote an absentee ballot in advance of the election at the Auditor's office in the county courthouse, may do so Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through Nov. 5, at 5 p.m.

Additionally, the Auditor's Office will be open on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. to facilitate absentee voting and voter registration.

Another early voting option available to voters is Satellite voting, which will be conducted on Tuesday, Oct. 30, from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in four communities in the county.

Voters who live in Precincts Four and Five will be able to cast ballots at the Satellite voting center, located in the Mallard Community Center.

Those voters who reside in Precincts Three and Five will be able to cast their ballots at the Ayrshire Community Center.

Voters living in Precincts three and six will be able to cast their early ballot at the Ruthven Social Center.

County residents living in Precincts Three, Four and Six will be able to cast their ballots in the satellite voting center located at the Graettinger Public Library.

All registered voters in the county received voter registration cards identifying the voter's precinct earlier this year.

The General Election will be Tuesday, Nov. 6, with the polls being open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Any resident who is not registered to vote or has questions on where their precinct will vote may contact the Palo Alto County Auditor's Office at 712-852-2924.
