September 11, 2012

"We had a good turnout for the first flu vaccination clinic of the season," said Peg McNally, RN, Director of Community Health Services. "This is a good time of year to get your vaccination."

The first flu vaccination clinic was held Thursday, Sept. 6, at the VFW in Emmetsburg. An estimated 130 people received their vaccinations. Pictured (at left) are Jeanette Frambach receiving her flu shot from Sue Joynt, RN; and in the background, Rita Hansen is pictured receiving her flu shot from Kim Krause, RN.

"The optimal time to get your flu shot is September through December," said McNally. "The protection from the flu shot lasts the flu season and does not become effective until approximately two weeks after it is given."

Palo Alto County Health System has scheduled flu vaccination clinics in Curlew, Mallard, Graettinger, ayrshire, Ruthven and West Bend. There are also walk-in clinics at Family Practice clinics in Emmetsburg and Graettinger, in addition to the Community Health Office at ?Palo Alto County Hospital.
