Leo H. Moran 1923-2012

RUTHVEN -- A Mass of Christian Burial for Leo H. Moran will be held today, Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven. Concelebrants are the Rev. Clem Currans, the Rev. Tom Geelan and the Rev. Peter Fransco.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven is in charge of arrangements.

Leo Harlan Moran, son of Charles and Ella (Pederson) Moran, was born Dec. 15, 1923 on the family farm northwest of Emmetsburg. He received his education at Lost Island Township schools completing eighth grade.

After completing his education, Leo began farming at home with his family. Leo was drafted into the United States Army in February 1943 serving during World War II. Leo served stateside and overseas for three and a half years before being honorably discharged in April 1946.

On Aug. 30, 1951 Leo was united in marriage to Mary Ann Heller at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. To this union four children were born.

Leo farmed his entire life and raised all types of livestock. He was a devoted member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Ruthven and was a member of the Ruthven American Legion.

Leo passed away Thursday, Aug. 30, 2012, at the Emmetsburg Care Center, at the age of 88.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; a sister, Velda Kunz; and three brothers, Francis, Donald and Marvin Moran.

He is survived by his children, Catherine Graves (Roger) of Glidden, John Moran (Patti) of Graettinger, Robert Leo Moran (Julie) of Ruthven, and Diana Nelson (Jim) of Emmetsburg; 13 grandchildren; 12 great grand- children; two sisters-in-law, Katherine Moran of Ruth-ven and Shirley Moran of Grinnell; an aunt, Evelyn Moran of Emmetsburg; and several nieces and nephews.
