WEST?BEND?- The Wolverines of West Bend-Mallard/Gilmore City-Bradgate earned a tough victory on the road at Remsen last Friday night. WBM/GCB earned a 28-14 victory over the Rockets to improve to 2-0 on the season as they prepare to host Marcus-Meriden-Cleghorn this Friday night for Senior Night in West Bend.
"It was a real battle between the two teams, but penalties hurt us too,"?noted Wolverine Head Coach Pete Kapustynski. "They had our backs against the wall a couple of times, but Wolverine Pride came through and got us out of those tough situations."
The Wolverines would come up with a total of 216 rushing yards in the contest and added 77 passing yards for an offensive performance of 293 yards. Remsen-Union racked up 120 yards on the ground and 64 in the air for 184 total offensive yards in the game.
For the Wolverines, Jordan Buhs would carry the ball nine times and gained 71 yards, scoring two touchdowns, including a huge, 57-yard jaunt for a score.
Jesse Zinnel added 24 carries for 69 yards in the game and scored a touchdown. Nate Grimm made eight carries for a total of 40 yards and added a conversion run and Ashton Fehr added four carries for 25 yards.
Jesse Zinnel completed five of 10 passes for 77 yards with one pass intercepted by the Rockets in the contest. Kurt Banwart had one catch for 11 yards, while Jason Zinnel made two receptions for a total of 42 yards and Jack Fehr added a catch for 12 yards.
Defensively, the Wolverines got a fumble recovery from Jason Zinnel, Nate Grimm would make 10 solo tackles and three assists with a quarterback sack, while Aaron Montag added nine solo tackles, two assists and two sacks to the tally. Dan Eubank made seven solo tackles and a pair of assists and Kurt Banwart had six solo tackles with one assisted tackle.
