A long-time tradition of golf in Emmetsburg will resume this Saturday with the playing of the Emmetsburg Men's Open Golf Tournament. The Open will be played on Saturday, Aug. 11 at the Five Island Golf Course in Emmetsburg.
The Open had a long history of competition and excellent golf dating back to the 1960's and into the 2000's, until a change in ownership of the golf course saw the event discontinued.
Now, in 2012, the Golf Board of the City of Emmetsburg is attempting to resurrect the Open, starting with a one-day, 18-hole tournament.
There are still tee times available for play on Saturday, and registrations are being accepted at the Five Island Golf Clubhouse by calling 712-852-3422, or in person on Saturday morning, starting at 7:30 p.m. at the clubhouse.
As part of The Open weekend, a Long Drive Contest has been organized for Friday, Aug. 10, starting at 7 p.m. Divisions are available for women and men and the public is welcomed to attend and view the long drive competition. Burgers and Brats will be grilled and available at the gazebo on the course at the fourth tee.
To cap off the weekend, a Community Night is planned for Saturday evening, starting at 6 p.m. in the clubhouse. A taco bar will be offered along with the opportunity to watch the championship round of The Open finish.
