RUTHVEN -- Funeral service for Kenneth P. Salton of Ruthven was held Monday, June 18, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ruthven. The Rev. Tom Summerfield officiated.
Burial was in Crown Hill Cemetery, Ruthven. The Martin-Mattice Funeral Home in Ruthven was in charge of arrangements.
Kenneth Paul Salton, son of W.A. and Ida Marie (Johnson) Salton, was born Oct. 30, 1920 in Ruthven. He began his education at Logan Township Elementary School and graduated from Gillett Grove High School in 1938.
On Feb. 10, 1944 Kenneth was united in marriage to Lois Brinkley in Ruthven. They farmed in Logan Township for 39 years, retiring to Ruthven, in 1983. After moving to town, Kenny continued to farm, and he planted corn for 75 consecutive years. He was a conscientious steward of the land and felt most content when he was driving a tractor.
From the 1950's through the 1980's, Kenny served on various school boards, including the Gillett Grove and South Clay School Boards and served as President of both. He was also a board member of the Area 3 Education Agency. From 1985 until 2000, Kenny served on the Planning Committee and then as Board President of the Ruthven Community Care Center. Kenny was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church for 91 years, holding the office of President of Congregation, Church Farm Manager and Trustee. Kenny was also a member of Clay County Zoning Commission.
Kenneth passed away Thursday, June 14, 2012, en route to the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg at the age of 91.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 53 years, Lois; brothers, John, William and Sandy Salton; sister, Helen Anderson; and his second wife, Doris.
He is survived by his children: K. Larry Salton (Marti) of Ruthven, and Linda Salton (Bud Browne) of Dallas, TX; five grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; a sister, Doris Treimer of Hartley; sisters-in-law, Darlene Embry of Spencer, Pat Gross of Spencer, and Natalie Salton of Webb.
